Country: Democratic Republic of Congo
Name: Eunice Muba
Age: 14
Eunice is a child reporter in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). That means that she studied and knows almost by heart the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Now she is dedicated in sharing everything she learnt with her friends, family and neighbors. She directed several videos on the situation of DRC children and she participates in monthly shows on the national TV with other child reporters, specialists and politicians to defend their rights. She also organizes advocacy games to raise awareness on specific subjects as health or education.
When the Francophonie summit took place in Kinshasa last October she had the chance to talk to several members of DRC parliament and to alert them on the non-respect of many children's rights in her country. She also had a great moment when she has been invited to the African Union summit in Addis Ababa where she held the voice of Central African children to the African leaders and wrote a noteworthy speech called "We, African Children". Her speech was impressive. She recalled the right of children to survival, free expression, education, health and called for a strategy to prevent armed conflicts affecting children.
Back in DRC she made her comments and recommendations directly to the DRC Minister of Children and Family. When you ask Eunice why she is so committed as a child reporter, she looks at you smiling: “Because I want to make my country a better place for children to live.”
SmallWorld supports the rights of children and causes for children.
